Ascension of Our Lord

May 28, 2017

Have a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend!

The Parish Office will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Prayer

Most eternal God, as Americans, we want to thank you for this great country. We are not proud, but humbled, that in your divine sovereignty we were born or naturalized in such a nation as this.

Thank you for those serving and who have served in the military that protect this country of ours. Thank you for those men and women in our military services who were willing to give their lives and who gave their lives to fight to keep this country free. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Second Collections

June 4, 2017 — Collection for Holy Father.

June 11, 2017 — Building and Maintenance Fund.

June 18, 2017 — Mission Collection for Peru.

Each year in parishes throughout the United States, parishioners have the opportunity to hear about the world missions. On the weekend of June 17-18, 2017, Sister Nancy Corcoran, a Sister of St. Joseph will speak at all the masses on behalf of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet who work among the poor and those who live in the margins of society in Peru. The Sisters of St. Joseph are in schools, parishes, an after school program, a large prison on the outskirts of Lima and in sites in poor community neighborhoods where social services are provided. Sister Nancy is well aware of the needs of the Sisters in Peru and the people to whom they minister. Recently, the Sisters have been reaching out to those who lost their houses and all their belongings due to the recent disastrous floods. They are trying to provide water filters, food and books and supplies for the schools that were practically destroyed. We ask for your prayers for the Sisters of St. Joseph and for parishioners to be generous with your donations for Peru’s poor.

Enlightened Sages

The Enlightened Sages will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the rectory.

Join Bishop Robert Barron for this engaging presentation concerning the seven deadly sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another.  Based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven levels of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory.  Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, greed, and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness.

However, Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness.

This series begins Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish House.
